Our Story

Codempowr was founded in January 2023 by Neila Toofuny and Alex Beamish. At the time of founding, both cofounders were completing their studies at Queen's University, and looking to scale up the social innovation projects they had pioneered as part of the CINDER Project (formerly BEAR) while also taking on new projects for clients.

Since its inception, Codempowr has been working with organizations of various sizes to design, develop, and maintain software ranging from stunning brand websites to highly customized mobile apps. Our team is committed to realizing positive change through our work by seeking out projects that improve quality of life and opportunities for all, especially marginalized individuals and groups.

Inspired by her previous experience with social innovation projects, and wishing to expand upon her work on The CINDER Project at Queen’s University, Neila set out to create a software agency that not only delivers exceptional results but also makes a positive impact on her community. With prior experience as both a software developer and project manager, Neila brings a diverse set of skills to every project that extends beyond software engineering.

Alex Beamish

Cofounder

As a cofounder, Alex takes a leadership role as a project manager and technical lead. Possessing a Bachelor of Computing from Queen’s University, and experience building both web and mobile applications in addition to working with cutting-edge AI models, Alex brings a strong technical skillset as well as a fresh perspective on the role of technology within the larger business context.
